The Authority currently operates 1,000 Conventional Public Housing units, provides 1,349 Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers, completed development of 116 units of Market Rate Affordable Housing Lease-to-Own housing through the State of Illinois (IHDA) Low Income Housing Tax Credit Program. Additionally, we administer 26 units through the State of Illinois Bridge Subsidy programs. These 2,491 units provide high quality housing to eligible families, seniors, and disabled persons throughout Will County.
Housing Choice Voucher Program
The Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program is the federal government’s major program for assisting very low-income families, the elderly, and the disable to afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private market.
Public Housing Program
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Public Housing Program provides affordable, decent, safe and sanitary rental housing for low-income families, elderly, and persons with disabilities.
Market Rate Affordable Housing
The Housing Authority of Joliet Market Rate Affordable Housing units are built exclusively for low to moderate-income Joliet residents featuring the Liberty Meadows and, coming soon, the Water’s Edge properties.

The Housing Authority of Joliet’s Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) Program waiting list is currently CLOSED and has been closed for any new applications since March 2010.
Unfortunately, we are unable to determine when our waiting list will re-open at this time. When the waiting list re-opens for the submission of pre-applications, a public announcement will be placed on this website and in local and minority newspapers. Additionally, we will send notices to local service agencies.
